Gosling influenza, also known as "gosling flu," is an acute exudative and septic infectious disease that mainly occurs in goslings over two weeks old. It is more prevalent in spring. Let's learn about the symptoms and prevention of gosling influenza.
Symptoms of Gosling Influenza
-
Primary Symptoms: In the early stages of the disease, infected goslings exhibit continuous nasal discharge, sometimes accompanied by tears. They breathe rapidly and may even breathe with their mouths open. They often vigorously shake their heads, bend their heads backward to sling nasal mucus, and have nasal mucus sticking to the feathers on the front of their bodies, making their feathers wet. They may also exhibit neck retraction, closed eyes, elevated body temperature, and gradually reduced appetite. In the later stages, infected goslings may experience tremors in their heads and legs, inability to stand on their legs, diarrhea before death, with a duration of the disease ranging from 2 to 5 days.
-
Anatomical Changes: There is fibrous membrane hyperplasia in the upper respiratory tract, and the spleen is enlarged (2-3 times) with granular gray-white necrotic foci on the surface. Hemorrhagic spots may be observed on the pericardium.
Prevention and Treatment
-
Prevention: Strengthen routine management of the goose flock, ensure appropriate stocking density, pay attention to moisture prevention and warmth preservation, and maintain cleanliness, dryness, and hygiene in the pens and bedding, especially in spring when the disease is more prevalent.
-
Treatment: Each gosling can be injected intramuscularly with 50,000-100,000 units of penicillin twice a day for 2-3 days. Alternatively, chloramphenicol can be used with an intramuscular injection of 12-15 milliliters per gosling twice a day for 2 days. A decoction can also be made by boiling 500 grams of brown sugar and 500 grams of plantain in 5-7.5 liters of water. The resulting solution can be mixed with appropriate feed for 200-300 infected goslings, fed twice a day for 2 days.
Above are some characteristics of the symptoms and prevention methods for gosling influenza. Goose farmers should learn more about them, especially during periods of fluctuating temperatures.
