Management Techniques for Early Spring Carp Cultivation

The crucian carp has a greenish-blue body color and is one of the "four major freshwater fishes" in China. During early spring when temperatures are low, proper aquaculture management is essential. Let's explore the management techniques for early spring crucian carp aquaculture.

Early Spring Crucian Carp Aquaculture Management Techniques

  1. Silt Removal: Every two years, drain the pond water and remove excess silt, leaving about 20 centimeters of silt on the pond bottom. Allow the pond bottom to dry and freeze to kill pests, parasites, and pathogenic bacteria.

  2. Water Disinfection: Improve pond environment, eliminate harmful organisms, and prevent certain bacterial diseases by disinfecting the water. Common disinfectants and dosages include 200-250 milligrams/liter of hydrated lime for pond water, or 20-25 milligrams/liter of hydrated lime for overall pond disinfection. Alternatively, use 20 milligrams/liter of bleach for pond water or 1.0-1.5 milligrams/liter of bleach for overall pond disinfection.

  3. Water Quality Adjustment: Stock the fish before the end of February when the water temperature is low, making it easier to handle without causing injuries. Apply green manure at a rate of 400-500 kilograms per mu or fermented, decomposed manure at a rate of 200-300 kilograms per mu five to seven days before stocking. Disinfect with 1%-2% lime, deepen the water to 0.5 meters after fertilization for 2-3 days, then to 0.6-0.7 meters after five days, and use fine mesh filters when filling the water.

  4. Daily Management: Maintain water transparency at 25-40 centimeters, dissolved oxygen above 4 milligrams/liter, pH between 7 and 8.5, meeting the requirements of being fat, lively, tender, and refreshing. Implement "four regulars": regular feeding spots, feeding times (twice a day, morning 8-9 am, afternoon 2-3 pm), quality feed according to different growth stages, and feeding quantities based on finishing within 1.5 hours each time.

  5. Pond Inspection: Inspect the pond twice a day, morning and evening, and carefully observe. During cloudy or rainy days, observe at midnight and turn on the aeration equipment as needed. If there is a heavy floating head, the aerator must be turned on until dawn. In colder weather, the aerator does not need to be turned on every day.

Above are the management techniques for early spring crucian carp aquaculture. Proper management during early spring can greatly benefit the later yield, so attention to detail is crucial.
