Indoor Loach Farming Methods

  1. Constructing a Pond: Building a pond for loach farming requires minimal investment and yields quick returns. Choose a location with water sources and good sunlight, such as around the house or in the courtyard. The pond is usually made of bricks or stones, with a depth of about 1 meter. After constructing the pond, plaster it with cement and pour in one-third of the silt and two-thirds of water.

  2. Stocking: Select healthy, disease-free, and vigorous loach fry and release them into the pond. Maintain a ratio of three females to one male. The method of distinguishing between male and female is by observing their appearance: males have pointed heads, narrow and long pectoral fins, bodies of equal thickness from head to tail, and a bony thin sheet at the base of the dorsal fin; females have elliptical flat heads.

  3. Feeding: Loach is omnivorous, so it can be fed with various baits such as cow dung, rice bran, wheat, and fly larvae. Generally, feeding three times a day is sufficient. The feeding amount should be determined based on their eating habits.

  4. Fertilization: During the feeding process, organic fertilizer can be properly supplemented, but it should not be excessive or too frequent. Additionally, the pond water should be changed frequently, usually once every 10-15 days.

  5. Harvesting: Drain the pond water first and adopt the method of keeping large and releasing small to ensure a certain number of loach fry in the pond, which is conducive to continued farming and high yields.

  6. Precautions: The edge of the pond wall must be about 1.5 feet above the water surface to prevent loaches from escaping, as they are active. "Summer solstice" is the best time for stocking fry, so seize the opportunity to release them.

Loaches are usually farmed in ponds, but they can also be farmed indoors. However, a farming pond needs to be constructed for indoor farming.
