Symptoms of Sheep Accidentally Ingesting Plastic Film

After ingesting plastic film, sheep may show symptoms of digestive dysfunction, including moaning, abdominal pain, restlessness, lethargy, arching of the back, continuous kicking or turning of the head towards the abdomen, lying on the right side, abdominal distention on the left side, extending and bending the neck against the chest, slow rumination, weak chewing, reduced appetite, foamy liquid discharge from the mouth during rumination, occasional pseudo-vomiting, initially dry and dark feces followed by thin diarrhea with blood.

Emergency Measures for Sheep Accidentally Ingesting Plastic Film

  1. Removal of Rumen Contents: Administer 250-300ml of vegetable oil or 500-1000ml of liquid paraffin orally once. Alternatively, administer 150-200g of sodium sulfate (or magnesium sulfate) dissolved in 1000ml of warm water orally once.

  2. Promotion of Rumen Motility: Administer 20ml of 95% alcohol diluted in 50-800ml of water and 5-10ml of phenylbutazone orally once. Alternatively, administer 5-10ml of 0.05% neostigmine or 24ml of 3% pilocarpine subcutaneously once, repeating the injection once after 4 hours to facilitate the expulsion of foreign objects.

  3. Prevention of Abnormal Fermentation of Gastric and Intestinal Contents: Administer 10g of fish bile dissolved in 100-150ml of 20% alcohol, diluted with water as needed, orally once.

  4. Improvement of Digestive Function: Mix 15g of sodium bicarbonate, 30g of yeast powder, 50 pieces of Atractylodes macrocephala, and 50 pieces of Rhubarb, and administer orally once.

  5. Traditional Chinese Medicine: A decoction containing 50g of Rhubarb, 100g of sulfur nitrate, 30g of Magnolia officinalis, 30g of Poria cocos, 25g of Phellodendron chinense, 25g of Morus alba, 25g of Hordeum vulgare, 20g of Citrus reticulata, and 20g of Cyperus rotundus, take the decoction twice a day and add 100g of lard oil before mixing and administering.
