Spinach is a cold-resistant vegetable with wide adaptability, strong cold resistance, rich nutrition, tender and delicious taste, much loved by consumers. Especially winter spinach is one of the important varieties for vegetable supply during the Spring Festival and early spring off-season. Let's discuss the key points of winter spinach planting techniques below.
1. Planting Time
Winter spinach is usually harvested in batches around the Spring Festival. It is sown from mid-October to early November. It is advisable to choose mid-to-late-maturing varieties with strong cold resistance, bolt resistance, and strong winter resistance, such as Late Round Leaf Spinach, Round Leaf Spinach, Liaoning Round Leaf Spinach, Hua Bo No.1, etc.
2. Seed Treatment
One week before sowing, soak the seeds in warm water for 12 hours, then treat them in a low-temperature environment for 1 day, and then germinate them at 20-25°C. After 3-5 days of germination, they can be sown. Use 3-3.5 kg of seeds per mu. Direct sowing can also be done in winter and spring.
3. Land Preparation
Select slightly acidic, well-drained, water-retaining and fertilized, loose and fertile loamy soil or sandy loam. Apply sufficient base fertilizer during land preparation. The furrow is 1.2-1.5 meters wide, 25-30 centimeters deep, and 30 centimeters wide, with a flat surface.
4. Sowing
Spinach is generally sown by broadcasting. Before sowing, water the furrow surface thoroughly, mix the seeds with ash for direct sowing, cover with soil, and then cover with shading net. After emergence, remove the net or replace it with a small arch shed cover.
5. Field Management
After the seedlings emerge and the true leaves appear, water with fertilizer once. After 2 true leaves, weed, thin seedlings, and topdress, with a spacing of 3-4 cm. Topdressing should be light before becoming heavy, with 2-3 applications of fertilization water to promote growth. Pay attention to insulation during snow and frost. During the growth period, pay attention to the prevention and control of leafminer, aphids, anthracnose, and downy mildew.
6. Harvesting
Generally, when the seedlings are over 10 cm tall, they can be harvested in batches. About 15 days before harvest, apply a quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer once to increase yield.
Above are the key points of winter spinach planting techniques. Spinach can be planted at temperatures above 5°C, and it has a good market demand, short growth cycle, simple planting operation, and high economic benefits.
