Five Key Points for Raising Pheasants

  1. Selective Breeding: Select breeding pheasants with a body weight of 1-1.5 kilograms, symmetrical structure, strong physique, good development, large and lively eyes, bright red crest, and a gentle temperament. Male pheasants should have well-developed bodies, symmetrical features, bright red crests, well-developed breast muscles, full plumage, loud crowing, and a weight of over 1.5 kilograms.

  2. Implementing Disease Prevention: Maintaining the health of pheasants is crucial for improving fertilization rates and extending the peak laying period. Regularly disinfecting the pens with a 1:1000 dilution of disinfectant or a 0.1% potassium permanganate solution for water troughs and feed troughs. During the peak laying period, common diseases include E. coli and enteritis, which can be prevented by adding penicillin powder to the drinking water every two weeks.

  3. Scientific Feeding: During the breeding period, the nutritional composition of pheasant feed should be comprehensive. The feed formula during this period should include: soybean cake 15%, bran 17%, corn 49%, fish meal 8%, sorghum 6.5%, bone meal 1.2%, shell powder 2%, additives 0.4%, salt 0.5%, with the addition of 5 grams of multivitamins, 50 grams of choline chloride, and 50 grams of methionine per 50 kilograms of feed. Two months after laying, administer a "comprehensive egg production decline vaccine."

  4. Optimal Male-to-Female Ratio: A balanced male-to-female ratio is essential for increasing egg production and reducing feeding costs. The recommended male-to-female ratio is 1:4 or 1:3.

  5. Management: Clean the pens daily, provide water and feed regularly, and ensure clean and adequate drinking water. The optimal temperature ranges from 15°C to 25°C. Temperatures exceeding 30°C or below 10°C can affect egg production.
