Chrysanthemums can be divided into ornamental chrysanthemums and medicinal chrysanthemums. Medicinal chrysanthemums, mainly using the flowers for medicinal purposes, have rich pharmacological effects and are commonly used medicinal herbs. Representative varieties include Gongju, Hangju, and Chuju. So, what are the propagation methods of medicinal chrysanthemums? Let's find out.
1. Division Propagation
In the previous autumn, dig up the entire mother plant, shake off the soil from the roots, remove dead branches and roots, and cut the aboveground part into 6-10cm long sections. Use a knife to split the root connection part into several small clusters, each with 2-4 branches and intact roots, and replant them. Dig holes with a row spacing of 40cm, a depth of 5-6cm, and plant 1 plant per hole.
2. Layering Propagation
Layering propagation is best done on cloudy and rainy days, with timely fertilization. Layering is divided into two steps: The first step is around the beginning of Lesser Heat, lay the chrysanthemum branches flat, press them into wet mud every 10cm, remove the tops, and new branches will emerge from the leaf axils. The second step is around the beginning of Greater Heat, at the end of July or early August, lay down the newly emerged branches as in the first step, and apply organic manure once. At the end of Heat, remove the tops.
3. Cutting Propagation
(1) Cutting time is generally from late April to early June.
(2) Seedbed selection: Choose a fertile, loose, and well-drained plot for the seedbed. Deep plow in autumn and winter, and apply well-rotted stable manure at a rate of 2000kg per 667m² before cutting in spring of the following year. Cultivate a seedbed 1.5 meters wide and 20 centimeters high.
(3) Selection of cuttings: Cuttings should be taken from vigorous mother plants, selecting semi-lignified sections about 6-8 centimeters long (approximately 4 nodes).
(4) Cutting method: Remove the top and lower leaves of the cuttings, cut the bottom at an angle, dip it in a 1500-3000-fold dilution of indoleacetic acid, and then insert it into the prepared seedbed.
In summary, there are three main propagation methods for medicinal chrysanthemums: division propagation, layering propagation, and cutting propagation. Among them, cutting propagation is simple and practical, so it is widely used in production. Pay attention to the key points and operational matters of this method.
